Paris has been a lifelong dream for the both of us and, at long last, we landed in the airport and embarked on a mini adventure to our hostel. Within minutes an accordion player had hopped on the train and we were serenaded Paris style all the way in to the city. Surprisingly we had no problems navigating the metro system, we had more problems once we surfaced and had to walk around on the streets. We had already been awake for 24 hours so wandering around with our heavy packs in the rain was not appealing. Luckily some nice man recognized that the 2 people standing on the street corner quizzically looking at a map were most likely lost and he sent us in the right direction!
When we reached the hostel we literally dumped our bags, changed shirts and headed out to a patisserie (bakery) in search of a croissant or baguette. My first purchase ended up being some organic carrots but considering there is a bakery or cafe every half a block we soon had baguettes in our hands!
At this point we hadn't slept in well over a day but the eiffle tower could wait no longer! We got directions from the staff at the hostel and off we went back to the metro to find the tower.
It was breathtaking. We caught our first glance of the tower across this big square and the only word that came to mind was "wow". We ended up climbing up to the second teir of the tower and taking the elevator up to the very top to see the view. It was spectacular. We had every intention of staying to watch it light up at night but we did not anticipate that while it got dark at 5:30pm in Ghana, it didn't get dark to 10pm in Paris! So with plans to return the next day we headed back to the hostel for some much needed sleep!
